Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank House Amsterdam

Amsterdam has a lot of touristic places but the two must sees are definitely the Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank House. If you have not enough time, please skip the Red Light District and the Canal Tour. In this blog I will give you some ins and outs and do’s and don’ts about these two places.

rijksmuseum The best time to visit Rijksmuseum is on weekdays before 10 am or after 4 pm. Buy your ticket online so you don’t have to stay in line to get in. Just let security scan your phone and you will be fine.

Of course you want to see the most famous painting ‘De Nachtwacht‘. Don’t get disappointed. It is not as big as you might think. Go to the second floor and you will see it at the end of the hallway.

But don’t forget the other exhibitions. The museum is decided into a permanent and temporarily exhibition. Check the website before your visit so you know what to look for. The museum is very big so planning ahead maybe wise.

Anne Frank House

rijksmuseumAnne Frank became world famous because of her diary she kept during the second world war. The place where she had to hide is called ‘Het Achterhuis‘. It is a very small place hidden behind a bookcase which you may have seen on pictures.

Because the place is so small, there is a limited amount of people they will let in. You have to book your ticket in advance and select the precize day and hour. Sometimes you need to book a month or more in advance. Don’t bother taking your camera with you. It is forbidden to take pictures.

Be prepared for an impressive experience. Anne Frank’s story is a story about the German hunt for and extinction of the Judes. I booked my visit at the end of the day and decides to walk back to my place after the visit. I knew the story but anyway it was hard to handle.

Amsterdam and The Netherlands

Rijksmuseum During my travels abroad I found out that where The Netherlands are really famous for. We tend to believe it is about tulips, clogs and windmills. But they are outdated. Nowadays we are famous for or liberal drug policies and legalized prostitution.

But of course Amsterdam and The Netherlands are much more than that. Read my other blog about what to do if you want to see more in the Amsterdam area. The Netherlands are a small country but we have more to show you than only Amsterdam.

Come and see what more we have to offer …
